I’ve always been a natural coach, especially after adopting my oldest nephew four years ago. This position has given me many chances to help him navigate adolescence. I’ve learnt through coaching how important it is to listen intently and not anticipate what someone else will say (Wang et al., 2020). I became aware of this throughout our discussion with Noah, as I would sometimes overlook his responses while I considered my next query.

For coaching to be effective, it is essential to genuinely care about Noah’s everyday struggles. For instance, showing that you understand his viewpoint is demonstrated by assisting him in developing a reasonable weekly timetable. His development and advancement toward his objective of learning music theory will be facilitated by his dedication to follow-up sessions.

Authenticity and personal interest are necessary for engagement, according to research on coaching strategies (Ko et al., 2022). The foundation of a great coaching connection is creating a genuine environment for communication, guaranteeing sincere engagement and significant advancement.
